Private investigation firms in the UK have reported a spike in new customers
The economy's on the up, and so are the suspicions of many betrayed spouses, according to recent news reports.
Private investigation firms in the UK have reported a spike in new customers – a staggering rise of 50 per cent this year – for 'matrimonial work'.
Some blame booming business on the recent easing of the economic downturn, along with people now having a bit more disposable income to spare.
The private investigation industry is thought to be more of a luxury than a necessity for spouses who suspect their partners may be cheating. Now that there's more money to go around, more people are turning to the services of private investigators.
Times have certainly changed for the growing industry, with most financial transactions now taken via debit card – goodbye brown envelope stuffed with cash – and of course, there's VAT.
With business on the rise, could it be an ideal time to start a private detective firm?
Of course, it's not all roses (it rarely is), with some PIs still resorting to hiding in bushes, or dealing with being chased by irate 'marks'.
Then again, with modern technology it's never been easier to hire a private detective, and with plenty of gadgets at their disposal, a cheating spouse doesn't have a hope.
Nowadays private investigators can rely on hidden cameras, digital voice recorders and long range lenses to catch cheats in the act.
There are many other reasons to hire a PI, however, and many often accept corporate or business clients, as well as law firms.
So far, the private investigation industry is unregulated, something that Home Secretary Teresa May has promised to change later in the year. With the addition of regulation, more people could become comfortable hiring the services of a PI – it could also get rid of some of the more dodgy firms that use dubious and illegal means such as phone hacking to get results.
At 1st Call Detectives we employ a wide range of legal and professional surveillance techniques to get to the bottom of a mystery – whatever your situation may be.
