Is your applicant all that they claim to be?

If you've ever applied for a job you know how easy it can be to fudge your CV. For most of us, that might mean claiming a few skills we don't really possess or Bigging up an internship or volunteering position to be more than it was.

It's not exactly truthful, but it's bending the truth rather than lying outright. Unfortunately there are people in the job market who are far less scrupulous. They fabricate qualifications, lie about their position in a company or invent experience that they don't really have.

If you're hiring from within or you know the applicant personally, the need for a background check diminishes; but in a high stakes situation like the recruitment process, it's crucial you have all the information about the person you're considering placing your trust in.
