Tracing friends and family - what you need to know

Tracing friends and family – what you need to know

At 1st Call Detectives, tracing people is one of our most in-demand services. Whether you need help tracing friends and family or locating someone as an aid in debt collection, we have a great track record of finding people for all manner of reasons.

Our private investigators have helped people in the UK or overseas to find biological parents and have reunited long-lost family members and friends. We have also found people guilty of infidelity or theft, as well as tracked people who owe money.

Using the latest technology and advanced tracing techniques, our investigators provide a wealth of experience and sensitivity when tracing someone. We appreciate the benefits, requirements and process of finding a missing person may be unclear, so let's go over them now.

Who benefits from a search?

Whether the reasons are personal, financial or medical, you've decided to find someone important to you. We've helped many individuals with our tracing services. Here are a few examples:

1. Adoption. Many adoptees and those eager to find their biological children contact 1st Call Detectives. Every set of circumstances is as individual as the people we try to reunite and we appreciate the sensitivity and discretion required with these cases.

2. Family reunions. Family members can lose contact for a variety of reasons. For example, divorcing parents or entrance into the care system can cause individuals to lose contact. Others come to us trying to get more information on their genealogy. We have a wealth of experience in such matters.

3. Friends reunited. Fractured and lost friendships can be rekindled by our team of investigators. It may seem hopeless to search for someone who you crossed paths with years ago, but no search is hopeless.

4. Financial responsibility. Finding an individual as an aid in debt collection is a common request. Whether your financial reason is personal, for example for child care and spouse support payments, or professional, for example if a partner has left your business in the lurch, we can help.

5. Moral obligations. If you're diagnosed with a contagious disease, you may need to alert past partners. As many couples do not stay in contact after a breakup, this can be difficult. But this is the right decision to make – and finding a former partner under such circumstances is important and not impossible.

Why hire a private investigator?

Finding someone can be difficult on your own, but we can assist you with the complex process of locating a missing person. Here are some of the benefits of hiring a private investigator:

1. Let us take the strain. Tracing missing people is, by its very nature, a highly stressful process. If you decide to go it alone you will be faced with the upheavals, false hopes and dead ends that this relentless search always provides.

When we take over your search, we promise to minimise contact, and therefore the stress, of the process while we work tirelessly to find your missing person.

2. Thorough checks. Investigators can perform a range of checks and services that an individual may not know about, or have access to. Our investigators can perform background checks, search public records, verify reference checks and facts and conduct interviews to provide a highly detailed profile of an individual.

3. A fast and 24/7 service. No one person has the time and energy to search for an individual constantly. Our team of investigators can maintain momentum, confidentially collaborate and work round the clock to find a missing person.

Our range of resources also means we find people faster because we have access to databases not available to the general public. These databases are more up-to-date and accurate than any in the public domain.

4. Complete confidentiality. We promise the utmost discretion and confidentiality. Our investigators appreciate the highly sensitive and personal nature of tracing a person, whatever the reason. If we do locate an individual, we will share all of the information we have uncovered with the client and leave our client to decide the next course of action, whether that be to make contact, or not.

5. Training and experience. The training and experience of our investigators is second to none. Many have years of experience in law enforcement and understand the huge range of methods available to find a missing person. Hiring a private investigator means you are hiring an expert.

What do you need from me?

It doesn't matter what details you have; in the past we've successfully traced people with only a first name to go on. However, the more detail you can provide, the faster we may be able to find someone.

The list below is not a must-have list, but it could help to trigger some information you may not be aware of. Here are five ways to help a private investigator trace a person:

1. Write everything down. You may have attempted to find a person on your own. If this has not been a success, be reassured that your efforts have not been in vain. This could take a while but write down every scrap of information about your previous attempts at finding someone so a private investigator doesn't waste time when they resume your search.

2. Build a picture. Write everything down that you remember about the person in question. From when they were born to the last sighting of the individual, every piece of information counts.

3. Records. Have you got any marriage records, birth certificates or electoral roll details? Any piece of paper work could help a private investigator.

4. Addresses and telephone numbers. Old landlines, old mobile phones and former addresses can help to locate a person.

5. Social media. Does the individual have any social media presence? Try scouring Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Google+ to find social media accounts this person may be acting under.

What happens if you find my missing person?

On successful completion of an investigation, we provide a full report on our findings to allow you to approach the person in the most suitable manner.

Some clients ask us to make contact with the located individual personally at the end of a successful search. This may be to deliver a personal message or court documents. We are here to help you.
